The Danger of a Dead Faith: When Reputation Replaces Reality

There is perhaps no more sobering spiritual condition than believing you are alive when you are, in fact, dead. Not physically dead, but spiritually. Not absent from the pew, but absent from genuine communion with the living God. It is a condition that is easy to miss precisely because it wears the costume of health. It shows up on time. It knows the right words. It has programs, budgets, and a reputation that would make any outside observer say, "Now there is a thriving community of faith." And yet, Jesus looks at it and says: "You are dead."
